Have you ever needed a helping hand to get a job?
Some people always seem to land their next opportunity with ease, while others—despite talent and persistence—struggle to catch a break.
Sure, we all make our own luck to some extent, but sometimes what really changes a life is when someone gives us a chance.
In my volunteering with a homeless charity, I’ve seen how quickly someone can fall through the cracks. But I’ve also seen how powerful it is when someone looks beyond the past and says, “I believe in you.”
As a member of the advisory board for a brilliant social enterprise, I’m proud to support organisations that actively hire people facing disadvantage—because opportunity shouldn’t be limited to those who shout the loudest.
I often hear from people in the GIS community—graduates, migrants, career changers—who are looking for just one foot in the door.
So here’s my ask:
Next time you need someone for a project, a contract, or a part-time role—consider giving someone a start.
Post your role on GISjobs Australia—it’s free, it’s easy, and it could change a life.
If you don’t have a role to offer, consider sharing this message or tagging someone who might. The more we lift each other, the stronger our industry becomes.
Let’s be the helping hand we all needed at one point.
Where were you helped? Who gave you a chance? I’d love to hear your story.
